In study session IV you have learnt about maintaining an effective health work environment through participating in team processes and maintaining a positive approach and attitude in the work place. In this session you will learn about occupational safety in anesthesia. Historically, the greatest occupational hazard encountered by an anaesthetist was the threat of a fire or explosion while using potentially explosive anaesthetic agents. Replacement with non-explosive agents has rendered this hazard virtually obsolete in modern anaesthesia. However, today's anaesthetists could encounter workplace-related and personal hazards specific to anaesthesia. Therefore in this study session you will learn about will learn about work place related and personal hazards in anesthesia. In addition this session will cover the methods of control and prevention of different occupational hazards in anesthesia.
