Ensuring Individual Responsibilities Within the Team Are Achieved

A key role for a coordinator is to monitor their own performance and the performance of all team members. They must do this to ensure the team is functioning smoothly and is on target to meet the objectives and goals that have been set.

Prioritizing Work Tasks

People are more likely to work independently if they understand what they have to do and are given support. An important function is to identify priorities. This lets people know what tasks must be done and in what order. Some tasks are important but not urgent. For example, completing a regular review of a service delivery plan for a client is not urgent, but it is important that it gets done as close to the due date as possible. Providing medication to clients at the right time is urgent and needs to be done at the prescribed time.

Sometimes the consequences of an important task not being completed on time may be minimal. It may not cause any harm at the time. However, if the task is put off time and time again because it's not considered urgent, the consequences may be harmful. For example, reviewing a service delivery plan may not be urgent; however, if the review is put off again and again as more urgent tasks take priority it is possible that an important change in the person's support needs may be missed. This may lead to the person being at risk of harm or injury.

When an urgent task is not completed, harm or damage may result. Not providing a client with their medication at the correct time could be harmful and cause the person to become unwell. It is important to prioritize tasks based on their urgency and importance. However, it is just as important to review your priorities to ensure low or medium priorities don't just remain on your to-do list and never get done. Items that have been put off for a certain amount of time should become a higher priority to ensure they get completed in a timely manner.

It's a good idea to regularly review priorities with others
