Emergence phase of anesthesia is critical times where patient start to awake from the effects of anesthesia and muscle relaxants which often accompanied by neurologic signs and symptoms that would be considered pathologic in non surgical settings. These include transient disorders of orientation and mentation (mental activity) and movement disorders. Since it is a time of great physiological stress for many patients, emergence from general anesthesia should ideally be a smooth and gradual awakening in a controlled environment. In this session you will learn how to manage the emergence phase of anesthesia to make it smooth and safe with less physiologic stress of the patient. In addition you will learn how to identify and treat complication incurred in this phase of anesthesia.
