Introduction

In the previous session of intraoperative fluid management, you have learnt how to evaluate volume disturbance perioperatively and management of this disturbance using crystalloid and colloid solution. In anesthesia practice blood and blood products are administered to correct hypovolemia as a life-saving intervention. However, like all treatments, it may result in acute or delayed complications and carries the risk of transfusion-transmissible infections. In this session you will learn to adopt knowledge, skill and right attitude to apply safe blood administration procedures perioperatively.
