In session IV you have learnt how to assemble and prepare anesthetic equipment using standard checklist to assure the requirement for the patient is fulfilled. In this session you will learn cleaning, disinfection and sterilization procedure to prevent cross infection and maintain equipment safe and functional. Anesthesia equipment may be exposed to potentially infectious material during ordinary use. Equipment can become contaminated through direct contact with the patient's skin, mucous membranes, secretions and blood. The interior of the breathing circuit may become contaminated through contact with respiratory secretions. Contamination may also occur through contact with splashes/spillage from the surgical field, improper handling of used equipment or breaks in infection control techniques. Therefore, this session will help you to acquire knowledge and skill with the right attitude to follow the right procedure to clean, decontaminate and or sterilize anesthetic equipment by which transmission of infection can be prevented.
