Introduction

In the previous three session of this module you have learnt the use of medical gases, the components of anesthesia machine and the different types of breathing system. In this session you will learn how to organize and checking the anesthesia equipment before induction of anesthesia. The purpose of pre anesthesia check out procedure is to assess the operation and function of the anesthetic equipment including components of anesthesia machine, air way equipment as well as the availability of anesthetic and emergency drugs. In addition the operating room condition such as safe electric outlet, normal room temperature should be checked before proceeding anesthesia. Therefore this session will enable the learner to adopt relevant knowledge, skill and right attitude to adhere daily check of equipment, identify problem and prevent anesthetic mishap from malfunction of equipment and unavailability of drugs.
