In the first section, you will learn about the different ways of classifying communicable diseases. Following classification you will learn the approaches in prevention and control of communicable disease. This will help you in identifying appropriate measures for the prevention and control of communicable diseases that you, as a health professional, will put into place in your community.

This study session forms the basis for study sessions later on specific diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Finally, you will learn how to apply the methods of community diagnosis to assess and prioritise actions to prevent and control the main communicable diseases in your community.
