Generalised (pathologic) oedema
Generalised oedema is characterised by the widespread development of oedema in the woman's back, abdomen, hands and face. The oedema is considered pathologic if the mother's weight gain per week is above 1.0 kg. The normal weight gain per week during pregnancy is in the range of 0.25 kg to 0.75 kg (average 0.5 kg).
