In this Study Session, you have learned that:
  • It is our lifestyle that determines our current and future Health condition. Our lifestyle which involves our dietary habit, our habit of exercise, our behaviour to substances like alcohol, drugs and smoking, and our behaviour of sex acts, all these have a role in determining to be healthy or to be at risk of developing chronic non-communicable diseases
  • Steps to living longer and staying healthy involves six components:
  • Give your body the energy it needs (healthy eating or a balanced diet).
  • Stay physically active.
  • A healthy mind is part of a healthy body.
  • Keep your mind and body free of harmful drugs and alcohol.
  • Practice safe living habits.
  • Get regular health care.

By doing so, morbidity load in the community will be minimised, and the quality of life can be maximised as well as the productivity of the community also.
  • Community diagnosis, History taking and physical examination are the techniques that the Health Extension Workers have to employ to detect the suspected cases with chronic non-communicable diseases early.
