Currently, in Ethiopia, there are ten vaccines in the expanded programs of immunisation (EPI). These vaccines prevent most of the childhood infections. Children who visit health facilities from time to time can miss their immunisations due to many reasons. All the sick and healthy children that come to the health post need to be checked up for their immunisation status, Vitamin A and get dewormed with mebendazole. Except unusual cases, all children need to be updated on their immunisation, irrespective of their medical or physiological problem, during their visit to the health post.

Some infections are non-vaccine preventable that need identification by you during their disease examination. Mothers may not be able to identify some diseases as dangerous since they are considering them normal for children.

But those infections can result in complications and deaths. These types of infections ca be ear problems, eye infections, etc.. In this session, you will be able to identify these common childhood infections and their treatment. You should always check the immunisation status, ask for child ear problems, eye and skin infections.
