In this Study Session, you have learned that:

  • Childhood illnesses primarily affect under five children's but these diseases are easily preventable because most of the childhood diseases are protected by vaccination.
  • Unless it is prevented, the mortality and morbidity rate of children will increase. Means of prevention of main children's diseases are implementing different prevention mechanisms like immunisation, personal hygiene (hand washing and diapering), good preparation of food, prevention of respiratory problems are some of the prevention mechanisms of childhood illness.
  • Child abuse and neglect have a significant impact on children's health. You should prevent them by promoting health education in the community and by giving individual counselling to the caregivers.
