Neonatal death mainly occurs from three causes: neonatal infection (Sepsis, Tetanus, Diarrhea and pneumonia), preterm delivery, low birth weight and birth asphyxia.

In Ethiopia, infection is considered to be the prime cause of newborn death. Immediate and essential neonatal care is the cornerstone that will certainly have a significant impact on life of neonate

In this study session, you will learn about the immediate newborn care that has to be provided for all newborns, irrespective of their condition as well as how to make a rapid assessment, identify asphyxiated baby and classify them as no, moderate or severe asphyxia. Finally, you will learn the resuscitation procedures you should apply in your work settings.
