In this Study Session, you have learned that:
  • The mal-presentation is a presentation other than the vertex.
  • The cause of mal-presentation is high parity, twin pregnancy, uterine abnormality, and Contracted (abnormally narrow) pelvis, prematurity, Etc.
  • The types of mal-presentations: Breech, face, transverse, and brow.
  • The occipito posterior position is the mal-presentation of vertex presentation.
  • The twin pregnancy is two or more fetus in the uterus, the types of twin pregnancy include Monozygotic twin (identical twin), Dizygotic twin (fraternal twins):
  • The complication of the twin pregnancies includes malpresentation, prematurity, low birth weight, fetal abnormalities, cord prolapse, and a higher rate of maternal pregnancy-related complications.
  • The general complication of malpresentation, malposition and multiple pregnancies in term pregnancy results in obstructed labour, fistula, sepses, uterine rupture, maternal death, fetal distress and death.
