Introduction
Unintended pregnancy is a worldwide problem that affects women, their families and societies at large. Unintended pregnancy results from non-use of contraceptives, contraceptive failure and rape. According to a report of the Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey 2011, 25% of currently married women had an unmet need for family planning; 9% of births were not wanted, and 16% of births were mistimed.
In this study session, you will learn about what unwanted pregnancy mean and the consequences of unwanted pregnancy, types and causes of abortion and post-abortion care. You will also learn Ethiopian legal condition in the provision of safe abortion.
