The physiology of female reproductive organs
The reproductive role of the female reproductive organ is far more complex than that of the male. The primary functions of the female reproductive organs are as follows:
- Secrete sex hormones.
- Produce eggs (ovaries).
- Receive the male penis (spermatozoa) during sexual act (the vagina).
- Serve as the site of fertilisation (fallopian tube).
- Nourishe the fertilised egg (uterus).
- Carrie and protects the developing embryo (uterus).
- Deliver the fetus through the birth canal (uterus and vagina).
- Provide nourishment to the baby with milk secreted by mammary glands in the breast.
