The reproductive role of the female reproductive organ is far more complex than that of the male. The primary functions of the female reproductive organs are as follows:

  • Secrete sex hormones.
  • Produce eggs (ovaries).
  • Receive the male penis (spermatozoa) during sexual act (the vagina).
  • Serve as the site of fertilisation (fallopian tube).
  • Nourishe the fertilised egg (uterus).
  • Carrie and protects the developing embryo (uterus).
  • Deliver the fetus through the birth canal (uterus and vagina).
  • Provide nourishment to the baby with milk secreted by mammary glands in the breast.
