The health extension worker will work with the community throughout their work time. As facilitators, mobilizers help communities to identify issues they want to address and come up with new and creative solutions. Through this, they have a responsibility to mobilise the community towards different health issues in their kebele. During mobilising the members of the community, you have the following roles and responsibilities.

  • Establish good relationships with the communities.
  • Work closely with the community facilitators-members of the community who are leading the process.
  • Create awareness and interest among community members to be an active participant.
  • Guide and facilitate the process of community mobilisation.
  • Encourage the community to value their internal assets and resources.
  • Set realistic expectations - be honest with the community about what the project will and will not provide.
  • Facilitate linkages with other organisations.

While working with the community, you should also be a good role model for them. You should also listen to the rather than lecturing them.
