In this Study Session, you have learned that:

  • There are two views concerning the definition of health: negative and positive models. The negative view defines health as the absence of disease and disability whereas the positive model views health in holistic concept as per stated by WHO as "Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
  • Heath education is a combined process of educating people about health to achieve the ultimate goal of modification of previous unhealthy behaviour and maintenance of existing healthy behaviour.
  • Prevention activity is important and more cost-effective than curative service. To prevent the spread of communicable and non-communicable diseases within the community, you should transfer health education message to a diverse target audience at different settings.
  • Your responsibility as a health educator are the following:
    • Discussing with the people and understanding their problems.
    • View behavioural action that might cause cure and prevent these problems.
    • Assessing reasons for people's behaviours.
    • Finding together solutions for the problem.
