Family planning for individuals with HIV
FP service providers should respect the right of PLWH and help them to achieve their reproductive needs. Avoiding unwanted pregnancy in HIV-positive women using FP is one of the four prongs of preventing mother to child transmission of HIV. Couples with HIV have a broad range of methods from which to choose. HIV-positive clients need continuing protection from other STIs and HIV re-infection. Correct and consistent condom use, alone or with another method, protects against both pregnancy and infection. Generally, with very limited exceptions, almost any method of contraception can be used by clients with HIV.
