Mechanical Barriers:

Mechanical barrier methods of contraception work by creating a physical barrier between sperm and egg cells so that fertilisation cannot occur. They do not change the way the woman's or man's body works, and they cause very few side effects. The most common mechanical barrier methods are the condom, condoms for women, the diaphragm, cervical cap and sponge

Chemical Barriers:

Spermicides, a form of chemical contraceptive that works by killing sperm, are often combined with mechanical barrier methods of contraception for greater effectiveness.
