Dietary diversity (DD) has long been recognised as a key element of food security.

It is usually measured by summing up the number of foods or food groups consumed over a period of time. Consumption of a more diversified diet is an indicator that the household is food secure; while a less diversified diet is an indicator of food insecurity.
