Superficial wound


Superficial wound or abrasion are wounds limited to the outer skin layer.  They are usually caused by friction against abrasive surface.



Deep wound


Deep abrasions, like cuts or lacerations,  exceed the outer layers and can go  through all the layers of the skin and into underlying tissue like muscle or bone.



Wound infection: pus / warm / swelling

Surrounding skin being inflamed with redness, warmness, pain at the palpation, swelling or pus evacuation.



Suspicion of bone fracture


Presence of an important hematoma, deformation, limitation of mobilization or very painful at the palpation or mobilization.



Suspicion of bone dislocation


Presence of an important deformation, limitation of mobilization, instability or very painful at the palpation.



Burn wound


Has the child suffered a burn resulting in skin breakdown? 



Open skull fracture


Open skull fracture or compound fracture is when there is a fracture of the skull (splintering of the skull bone) and a break in the skin.


Basilar skull fracture

Signs of basilar skull fracture:

- Retro-auricular
- Periorbital bruising
- Blood or CSF running from ear



Limping


Difficult, asymmetrical and sometimes slow gait, favoring one leg
