When you have studied this session, you should know: 

  • Describe how malaria testing is done.
  • Demonstrate malaria testing using a rapid diagnostic test (RDT).
  • Properly read and record RDT results.
  • Explain malaria treatment guidelines for simple malaria.
  • Treat malaria patients correctly.
  • Identify patients that should not be treated but referred.
  • Correctly give pre-referral treatment to eligible children using rectal artesunate.
  • Correctly complete the referral note.
